Is the first comprehensive mapping of the abundant, well-maintained, diverse, all-natural local trails in Chapel Hill-Carrboro.


Community Need:
Residents of Chapel Hill-Carrboro are blessed to have an abundance of local greenways, but many are unaware of these natural surface trails, their beauty, their ecological diversity, and their importance.

The Community Trail Guide program seeks to:
  • increase awareness and encourage the of the trails
  • promote physical and mental well-being
  • increase environmental consciousness and community solidarity
  • encourage an alternative means of transportation
  • further promote conservation and link parties through advocacy and partnership

12 trail guides and one comprehensive trail guide map linking trails with roads, greenways, and bike paths have been developed which provide information about the location, directions, surface type, difficulty, technicality, history, and ecology of each trail.
