Community Trail Guide
Residents of Chapel Hill and Carrboro are blessed to have an abundance of well- maintained, diverse trails in beautiful natural spaces in their community. However, many residents and visitors are unaware fo the natural surface trails in the area or the ecological diversity and importance of these spaces. Sustain Foundation’s Community Trail Guide program is the first comprehensive mapping of these local trails.
The trail guides were created by Sustain Foundation in an effort to increase awareness of the trails as well as to encourage use of the trails for physical and mental well- being. The guide relies on partnerships between businesses, non- profit organizations, and the local government. The Trail Guide program serves both individuals (by helping to increase personal well- being and appreciation of the environment) and the community of Chapel Hill (by creating valuable information about community resources). Twelve trail guides and on comprehensive trail guide map linking trails with roads, greenways and bike paths have been developed which provide information about the location, distance, directions, surface type, difficulty, technicality, history and ecology of each trail.
The following trails are highlighted by the guides:
Battle Creek
