Week 10.
Team Sakina-
This week marks the 10th week of the season. We are back at Fleet Feet this week for a pre-Halloween practice. We are in final physical and mental preparation stages for the upcoming race with a hard workout and special seminar this week.
Workouts for this week meeting at 6:15 at Fleet Feet:
- Endurance group- will be doing 5.5 miles through Carrboro. We will be leaving just after 6:15 as we want to ensure that the group is back in time for the seminar.
- Aerobic group- This weeks workout is a 1 mile tempo followed by 4-6 hills. We will do 0.5-1 mile warm-up and cool-down.
- Advanced group- This week will be 2 sets of tempo-hills: a 1 mile tempo, then 3 hills, another 1 mile tempo and then 3 more hills. We will do a 1 mile warm-up and cool-down.
Our seminar this week is the head sports psychologist for UNC athletics. We are honored to have Dr. Hack speak to us about the mental/psychology side of running and racing. After 15 years of competitive running I truly believe that running is as much mental as it is physical. Learn about racing strategy including visual imagery, pre-competition strategies such as relaxation techniques, motivation, and mental toughness.
Other information for this week:
- Race sign-up reminder- Sign up for the Old Reliable Run. Your registration fee benefits the United Way which aims to provide direct medical care for the uninsured. Did you know 1 in 7 people under 65 in the Triangle do not have insurance?
- Carpool sign-up- we have a sign-up sheet for those interested in carpooling. We will leave at 2 different times based to the 2 different race times. If you are interested in riding as a group to the race please see this sheet and indicate which time you would like to leave and if you are willing to be a driver.
- Pot-luck- save the date for a post-season potluck to be held the week after the race, likely on Thursday night the 20th. More information to follow.
- Change of location for next week- due to the traffic and other conflicts arising from meeting at the track this season, we will plan to meet at McDougall middle school for our practice next week. I will send directions next week.
- Need new shoes- take a minute to consider if you need new running shoes for the upcoming race. If so, now would be the time go get them. Fleet Feet will take you through a personal fit process and you’ll have just enough time to break them in.
- Check out pictures from last week's practice now posted around this website :)
See everyone on Thursday evening.
Endure, Sustain, Sakina!
