Team Sakina

Our Mission: The goal of Team Sakina is to supply women with the knowledge and skills to become healthier individuals in body, mind, and spirity. In exchange for the knowledge, skills and opportunity to be a part of a local women’s running community, Team Sakina gives something back. All program fees from each season are donated toward education and health initiatives in Sakina, Tanzania.

Team Sakina promotes active, healthy, joyful lifestyles through coaching, participation, and commitment, bi-weekly planned runs and social networking. Individual women gain knowledge and experience about running with the goal of becoming more sustainable individuals empowered by becoming physically and mentally stronger. As a “community” of women, Team Sakina participants meet each week to work hard, socialize and grow together. The program aims to form lasting friendships around a common interest in being healthy and active.

In addition to the positive impact this program has on Chapel hill- Carborro area women, the program has supported health education and students to attend secondary school in Sakina, Tanzania every year. In this way, Team Sakina enables community members in Tanzania to achieve similar goals of the women who run to support them- healthy lifestyles, a sense of community, empowerment and sustainability.
