Saludamos
Our Mission: To improve the overall wellness and awareness of health issues among Latina participants in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro area through group exercise, health education and strengthened social support networks. Saludamos strives to create a mutually beneficial relationship for all involved including participants, volunteers and community organizations.
Saludamos answers the need for a social approach to nurturing health and well- being for Latina women in the Chapel Hill- Carrboro area. In addition to weekly walks attended by volunteers and women, participants receive free childcare during walks, access to the Saturday Carrboro Farmers’ Market directly after walks, information about clinics and personal health and the opportunity to build lasting relationships.
Accomplishments:
November 2008: Program Directors Erin and Aileen receive the Apples Entrepreneur Social Fellowship grant for Camino Adelante.
March 2009: Camino Adelante merged with Saludamos, a Sustain Foundation health program for Latina women.
July 2009: Saludamos received the Clinton Global Initiative Grant.
July 2009: Referral program implemented that enabled healthcare providers to refer patients to Saludamos.
November 2009: Saludamos received the Strowd Roses Grant to develop a bi- lingual recipe book
