Sustain Foundation partners with the community of Sakina to implement sustainable health and educational programs.  Sakina is a small village of about 400 people located in Northeast Tanzania outside of Arusha.  Member of Sustain Foundation have been working with the community since 2005. 


Sakina Scholars

The Sakina Scholars are high-achieving students living in Sakina, Tanzania chosen for their drive to learn, commitment to community, and financial need. We currently provide 13 secondary school scholarships for students who would not otherwise be able to attend school. We are committed to helping them complete their secondary school education through form IV. The scholarship provides funds for school fees, transportation, books, and uniforms. Emanueli and Irene serve as a mentoring and support system for our scholars.

Sakina Health Evaluation

The Sakina Health Evaluation (SHE) was a comprehensive, community health assessment which was conducted in Sakina over the summer of 2009.

SHE included:
  • 10 focus groups (including men, women, teachers, village leaders, local health care providers, church leaders, and NGOs)
  • 12 in-depth interviews
  • 140 surveys
  • 20 meeting (with schools, NGOs, and government organizations)
